Champion of the Month
Highlighting those who go above and beyond the call of duty through
partnership with Springs Rescue Mission in service to those less fortunate
THANK YOU!
To Kelle McCormick who recently held a
clothing drive for SRM to help those in need.
"My whole life I've wanted to help the
homeless. Before I came to the Springs Rescue Mission I didn't
realize that not only homeless people came to the Mission.
Around
December of 2009 I wanted to help them very much. I was looking for
places that I could donate to when I came across y'all. I had already
cleaned out much of my closet and was going to donate that when,
coincidentally, my teacher for leadership class at Colorado Springs
Christian School assigned a community service project.
Since I had
already started gathering clothes, I decided to do a clothes drive
for the project. At first it started out pretty slow. Then I came to
school one day and there were tons of black bags in the bins. I held
the drive for about 2 weeks.
When I brought it to the Mission the look of surprise on the dept. coordinators faces was hilarious. I don't think they expected so much stuff. I had no idea I was going to get anything in return other than a feeling of "with this stuff i may make someones entire day". I hope that the feeling was a real hope. I'm just glad that I got to help other people.
